Brian Fisher

Brian Fisher

Long Term Care Marketing Manager, Friends Life

Brian has worked in the Financial Services Industry for many years but the experience of his own grandmother developing Dementia and requiring care, turned his attention towards the Long Term Care market joining Lifetime Care, now part of Friends Life, in 1993.

Working in various roles since then he is able to share his experience with later life and care professionals. He has written numerous articles for various trade and consumer publications on the many aspects of Care Fees Planning. A regular conference speaker he still provides training and seminar support for Advisers and professionals keen to develop in this growing market. His passion is to ensure that expert, professional advice is available to the elderly and their families when care is needed.

Brian sits on the Association of British Insurers’ Long Term Care Working Party and is an Advisory Board member of the Society of Later Life Advisers.

Discussion Topic:

The whole care funding system in England is changing this year and next – but do you know this will affect you?  If you are concerned about care or maybe you have a loved one already receiving care then you’ll need to know. This informative seminar will cover:

  • The Care Act – what does it really mean for you?
  • Will people genuinely not have to sell their house to pay for care?
  • How will the Care Cap work in practice?
  • What can I do to make sure I get the care I want in later life?
  • What about those already needing care?

Sue Dawkins

Sue Dawkins, Portsmouth branch of Carers UK
I have been a “carers champion” since the early 90’s, when the media did not really understand what carers were. I set up a weekly carers support group which ran for over 25 years, meeting and supporting hundreds of carers during this time, plus learning much from them. I was part of the original Government carers strategy in 1999, which resulted in a carers centre being set up with 3 staff in 2001, it is now in new premises and has over 25 staff providing carers support, advice and information.

I served on the Board of Trustees of Carers UK in London for 4 years, and was Chair of the local branch for over 15 years, raising awareness, funds, giving emotional and practical advice and information to any carer who needed our advice. I was awarded the MBE in 2003 for services to carers, which I was extremely honoured to receive from Prince Charles.

Discussion Topic:
The Care Act – I will talk about this from a carers perspective, and a social worker’s point of view, carers assessments etc, and quite happy to answer any questions at all.
